Abstract
I assessed geothermal resources of the Hakkoda geothermal area (about 50 km by 50 km). Thermal structure was made from many temperature loggings. The extent of Neocene formations was predicted from geological columns and magnetic and gravity maps based on physical properties of rocks. The amount of lost circulation during drilling suggests possible formations of reservoir. Three overlaps of high temperature zone and the possible formations of reservoir were defined as promising areas. The total stored heat of the three promising areas is 5.2x10/18 cal. The flow rate of geothermal energy, which can be obtained by detail and reliable data, enables us to estimate geothermal resources at the moment when a well is drilled. If the geothermal resources can be defined as renewable energy, the flow rate makes sense.
