Abstract
A number of projections of geothermal energy use in the U.S. from 1990 through 2030 were made for the National Energy Strategy. The supplies and markets considered included hydrothermal electric and direct heat, geothermal heat pumps, and hot dry rock electric. This paper describes some of the results and issues stemming from such projections. One surprising result is that, for 2030, geothermal heat pumps might be as important as hydrothermal power plants are in producing electricity.
