Abstract
Geothermal investigations began in Serbia in 1975, after the first effects of the energy crisis. They were initiated by hydrogeologists, and at their request in 1981 the first estimation of the geothermal resources was started, ending in late 1989. For the first assessment of the geothermal resources in Serbia the volumetric method was used for hydrogeological and petrogeothermal (hot rocks) resources. The hydrogeothermal resources in Serbia consist of 66 identified convective hydrogeothermla systems in Neogene sediments on the southern margin of the Pannonian Basin. The estimated depth for the hydrogeothermal resources was 3 km. There are ten identified petrogeothermal resources in Serbia, located in Neogene granitoid intrusives. Their estimated depth was 7 km. The estimates indicated a high feasibility for geothermal energy resources.
