Abstract
The central loop transient electromagnetic (TEM) sounding method is discussed. The method is found to be in many respects superior to Schlumberger soundings. Data collection is faster and cheaper. The TEM method couples inductively to the ground which makes it applicable in areas where the surface is resistive. Data inversion is more complicated but one dimensional (1D) inversion is found to be more justifiable for TEM than for Schlumberger soundings. A 1D inversion program for central loop TEM soundings is discussed and three examples of successful use are presented.
