Abstract

Commissioning of the Ohaaki Power Station is nearing completion. Large scale production and reinjection have been in progress since August 1988. Full output of 116 MW is expected by mid 1989. The field is unusual in having a history of large scale testing followed by 15 years of recovery prior to production for the power station. So far the reservoir has responded in general agreement with past experiences. There have been interesting responses observed with pumped reinjection into shallow, low temperature rhyolite aquifers and to discharge of low temperature waste water into surface features above the reservoir. Fresh approaches are being investigated to overcome problems with calcite depositing in production wells and blockages in the condensate disposal well.
