Abstract

The geothermoelectric field of Cerro Prieto in Baja California, Mexico has large amount of silica inside its reservoirs. Concentration of silica in its brines has an estimated average of 950 ppm at atmospheric pressure, that gives approximately six thousand tons per month of silica to the flash plant and evaporation lagoon. This silica has not had any further used, for that reason we have been motivated to conduct experimental tests, to elaborate a ceramic paste having silica as one of the components. In the Cerro Prieto field the purity of silica ranges form 50 to 94% of Is. IN this research, we present different types of ceramic pastes obtained employing silica recollected in discharge canals of the geothermal wells E-2, M-47, M-73. Finished products with these materials include ornamental pieces.
