Abstract
The case history of design and construction of the power plant at the Svartsengi geothermal field is described in this paper. The construction took place several stages lasting from January 1976 to September 1981. The total installed power capacity is 125 MWt (thermal) and 8 MWe (electrical) in three turbogenerators. Total investment amounts to approximately $31 million (1984 US dollars). Development of design and construction is discussed and facts about investment and operating cost are accounted for. Development of geothermal wells is explained and construction and operation of new work over equipment for flowing geothermal wells are accounted. for.
