Abstract
An approach is developed which uses the data on surface geology and geochemistry and enable us to obtain estimates on some physical and chemical characteristics of subsurface magma chambers. This is successfully applied to Los Humeros geothermal area which is shown to be underlain by a large (about 1,500 Km3), shallow (top of the chamber is about 5 km deep), chemically and thermally stratified magma chamber.
