Abstract
Geothermal exploration carried out since 1978 on the island of Reunion has led to selection of the Salazie site on the Piton des Neiges volcano and of the Grand Brule site on the Piton de la Fournaise volcano as the most promising areas. Detailed surveys of these areas were carried out in 1984 in order to establish initial qualitative geothermal models and to site four deep geothermal exploration wells. The aim of this paper is to synthesize the results of exploration work and the program of feasibility studies for a 25 MWe geothermal power plant due to come online by 1990.
