Abstract
This summary presents the procedures and results of a field corrosion test performed at the Geyser, California. The materials tested included carbon an low alloy steels, ferritic and martensitic chromium SS, chromium nickel austenitic SS and several coating, brazing and welding applications. The tests consisted of exposing the materials to geothermal steam and condensate. The corrosion rates were measured by weight and other graphic and fractographic analysis and stress corrosion and cracking of the specimens. The geothermal fluid temperature and chemical composition were recorded and analyzed. The test results indicate that the corrosion problem at the Geysers is milder than at most geothermal fields and that the materials selected will provide a more than adequate design corrosion tolerance margin.
