Abstract
Initial reservoir temperatures estimated by use of chemical geothermometers for thermal waters in southeastern Idaho generally resulted in poor agreement between the sodium potassium calcium and silica geothermometers. Concentrations of magnesium in these thermal water ranged from 7.1 to 260 milligrams per liter. By applying a magnesium correction to the sodium potassium calcium geothermometers, estimated reservoir temperatures previously reported are reduced between 39 degrees and 268 degrees Celsius and result in much closer agreement between the sodium potassium calcium and silica estimated reservoir temperatures. Reservoir temperatures in southeaster Idaho probably do not exceed 128 degrees Celsius.
