Abstract
Geothermal reservoirs with bottom hole temperatures above 380°F and static water levels below 500 feet present a severe environment for down hole pumping systems. The Sperry Corporations' novel pumping concept featuring in situ energy extraction to run a down hole pump is described. The system utilizes a down hole steam turbine driven pump to advance the capabilities of down hole pumping. The generalized performance of the pumping system is described. It is shown how the available system is designed depends on the geothermal resource data and the desired flow rate. Presently a 400 HP version of this pumping system is under development and is scheduled to be tested in geothermal well in Nevada in early 1981.
