Abstract
Thermal conductivity measurements of more than fifty sedimentary rock core discs coupled with two thermal gradient measurements from one shallow (450 ft) and one deep (2,000 feet) borehole are being used to delineate the extent of heat flow in western Ohio. Precambrian basement rocks in the study area are bisected by the southern extension of the Grenville Front. East of the Grenville Front the basement rocks are primarily metamorphic whereas granitic plutons and pegamitites typify the basement west of the Front. Samples of each are being analyzed by the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory for heat production capacity. Comparison between the observed heat flow east and west of the Grenvile Front is being made in relation to differences in basement heat generation.
