Abstract
Prediction of the temperature distribution behavior during thermal recover processes is needed for engineering evaluation of field operations. Such a predication can be used in the case of hot/cold water injection into a reservoir and it also has applicability in some other thermal recovery processes like in situ combustion and steamflooding. The analytical solutions which predict the temperature behavior of the porous media are generally based on the considerations of three heat transfer modes; conduction, convection and heat loss. In this paper, a new analytical solution is discussed which describes the temperature distribution in a linear reservoir in the case of hot/cold water injection. The mathematical formulation makes use of the concept of an unsteady state overall heat transfer coefficient. A comparison with published laboratory hot water injection data demonstrates the validity of the solution.
