Abstract

Geothermal well stimulation technology has not been developed to the degree of oil or gas well stimulation. Such technology development is quite costly and requires extensive laboratory and field testing. This technology must be developed to improve the economic and technical attractiveness of geothermal energy projects. The Division of Geothermal Energy of the United States Department of Energy has funded a program to extend the current petroleum industry stimulation technology for use by the geothermal energy industry. This paper describes the major technical problems which must be confronted to make geothermal well stimulation technically and economically feasible.
