Abstract
TRNSYS transient simulation of three different heating system show that considerable amount of energy can be extracted from 50°C (120°F) geothermal water. Simulation of the heating system was conducted for the Douglass School District, Edgemont, South Dakota, and a typical three bedroom house. Results of the simulation of the two school districts and the typical three bedroom house indicated that les than 10% of back up heat is needed to supplement geothermal heating system. In the case of the Douglas School District, a solar radiation processor was used to determine the amount of solar radiation gain through windows and glass doors. The amount of solar gain amount to about 8% of the total load.
