Abstract
The knowledge of liquid saturation in a laboratory model is important. It permits access to various parameters which control the behavior of two phase geothermal reservoirs. A bench scale model was constructed to study two phase flow in porous media and a reliable method for measuring liquid saturation was developed. Using a y-ray source of 1 Curie of Americum 241, one can measure liquid saturation within 5% of accuracy. A critical study was done of the electronic counting circuit, the influence of temperature, diameter of collimation, and the energy level of the source. The results of this study are presented in this paper.
