Abstract
Large quantities of high salinity geothermal brine from the Salton Sea Geothermal Area contain significant amount of Ag, Zn, Pb, Fe and Mn. A simple method of treating large volumes of spend brine is needed to economically recover the valuable nonferrous metals. Results from a laboratory investigation of sulfide precipitation are discussed, including conditions to affect precipitation of most of the valuable metal while minimizing precipitation of Fe and Mn, which are of no value. The study has been assisted by computer thermodynamic modeling.
