Abstract

A geothermal field exists near New Mexico State University campus at Las Cruces, New Mexico. The field is situated about two miles from the main campus, partly on University land and partly on adjacent state and private land. Geological, geophysical, geochemical and drilled wells information all indicate the existence of a geothermal aquifer, several square mile in area, perhaps 300-400 ft. in thickness, containing water at 60°C-100°C with about 2000-2500 ppm dissolved solids at a depth of 600-2000 ft. Conceptual engineering designs and technical-economic analysis reveal several financially feasible with "off the shelf" technology. These application include to water supply and space heating on campus.
