Abstract
Two advantages have been demonstrated for liquid fluidized bed heat exchangers in geothermal systems. 1) Control of scale on heat transfer surfaces, and , 2) Improved heat transfer rate compared to conventional tube and shell units which must use high fouling factors. Experiments have been performed with both synthetic brines and geothermal water room Raft River and East Mesa Sites. Both horizontal and vertical configurations have been evaluated. For preheaters and boilers horizontal layouts appear to be less costly to build an development effort is now centered on these units.
