To whom it may concern:
My current research at Scripps Institution of Oceanography uses innovative seismic techniques to better characterize the global pattern of transition zone structure. While I am a relatively young scientist, I have substantial experience with theoretical, field, and computational research. Consequently, I am interested in a variety of subjects ranging from geophysical inverse theory to flexural geodynamics. Whether seismically imaging the crust beneath the Transantarctic Mountains with receiver functions or modeling a thermal anomaly at the core-mantle boundary using differential travel times and attenuation, I endeavor to integrate seismology with mineral physics, geodynamics, and geochemistry to better resolve the structure of the Earth. To date, the research I am most proud of is the creation of a whole-mantle tomography model of seismic attenuation, which highlights a possible H20 reservoir in the lower mantle down-dip of Pacific Rim subduction.
Through mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, I have become equally committed to inspiring, educating, and advising future scientists. It is my hope to attain a tenure-track faculty position at an academic institution with an extensive and interactive research program, powerful computing facilities, and a continued commitment to education. I will enjoy collaborating with faculty, post docs, and students on a variety of innovative classes and investigations with topics spanning from crust to core.
My curriculum vitae, publications list, research statement, teaching statement, and reference list are attached. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jesse F. Lawrence
