I am a seismologist from Cali, Colombia. I recently received a PhD from the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP) at UCSD after obtaining a BS degree in Geology at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia The main focus of my research as a graduate student was in seismology and time-series analysis.
I am interested in the understanding of the earthquake rupture. For example, are large earthquakes different from the more common small ones? My goal is to obtain high-quality estimates of some of the parameters that are used in describing earthquake rupture. In order to obtain these high-quality estimates I have used data from borehole and surface stations in Southern California recording very small earthquakes.
More recently I have started to work on analysis of seismic noise. The signal that is usually regarded as noise is actually useful for studying the structure of the Earth. After some signal processing it is possible to extract the Green function of the propagation of seismic waves between sensors that record the noise.

I have written a large number of programs in Fortran 90 that I use for my research and publications. This includes plotting software, multitaper codes and other random programs. |
