Antarctica 2001-2002
Ross Island is the Southernmost point in Antarctica that is accessible by water. The largest US station on the continent is located at the southern tip of the peninsula near Scott's 1902 hut. The purpose of my trip was to help with a volcanic deformation survey during the Austral summer of 2001-2002 of Mt. Erebus (below, looking south) using GPS (for project information, see http://www.ees.nmt.edu/Geop/mevo/mevo.html). This collection of pictures was taken by several members of the 2001-2002 field party including Bill McIntosh, Rich Esser, Jeff Johnson, Tim Vermaat, Jessie Crain and myself.
