| People have long debated the origin of these incredible moving rocks, at Racetrack Playa. This stone (~75kg) has left a trail in the hard, cracked sediment as it was forced across the flat, dried lakebed. Because we are at fairly high elevation (~2000ft), the winds are wipping and the basin (when wet) may be frozen. The combination of these two conditions are believed to be the mechanism for the movement of these stones... but nobody has witnessed the process. | |||||||
