Science As Art

Science As Art Image Competition - 2008 Winner
Winner:
This pic is taken on beach outcrops of plane-laminated and climbing-ripple laminated sandstones (right side) and a algae covered wall (left side). The stark contrast between the clean wave washed rocks and the algae is quite stunning! One of my thesis chapters is on these climbing ripples and how they 'work' so to speak, so directly related.

Honorable Mention:
The edge of a colony of Pseudomonas fluorescens, showing taxis of the bacteria toward a food source (N-acetyl glucosamine)
