Since 1994 we have carried out an effort to better constrain the age of faulting leading to the formation of the Basin and Range Province, utilizing a variety of approaches including mapping of sedimentary and volcanic units and their relation to faulting together with fission track studies that allow us to approach the problem from the perspective of the thermal history of the fault blocks uplifted as a consequence of this faulting. Our growing data base allow determination of the space-time pattern of extension across the northern Basin and Range province in the Miocene.
