July 13, 2009 Professor Zoback's research featured in Stanford ReportAs energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions continually rise in the United States, unconventional natural gas sources coupled with advances in carbon sequestration may be the solution, according to Stanford University scientists. "In the next 30 years, we want to transition away from fossil fuels and move towards stabilizing atmospheric carbon," said Mark Zoback, a professor of geophysics at Stanford. "The utilization of unconventional natural gas with carbon capture and storage is a great way to get from here to there." Zoback presented his comments at a recent Energy Seminar hosted by Stanford's Woods Institute for the Environment and Precourt Institute for Energy. Click here to read the rest of the article...
February 16. 2009 Zoback Receives 2008 Walter H. Bucher Metal (AGU)Congratulations to Mark for being nominated and awarded the Walter H. Bucher Metal for 2008. The Bucher Medal recognizes fundamental contributions to the fields of crustal mechanics, global crustal stress, stress transfer, and carbon sequestration. Mark was acknowledged and thanked for his passion and dedication as one of the Principal Investigators of the SAFOD project. The text of both the citation (nomination) and acceptance speeches are now available online at the AGU website.
