"My long-term research interest is to understand the Earth and planetary bodies through experimental investigations of their constituent materials. By far the major fraction of these bodies is hidden at depth at extreme pressures and temperatures (P-T) which poses many experimental challenges. Recent, concurrent breakthroughs in high-pressure technology and new-generation synchrotron, neutron, and laser facilities have dramatically changed this outlook, effectively opening up the Earth's interior to direct examination. My plan is to take the opportunity to study the wealth of new phases and phenomena that exist at elevated P-T conditions. The results will greatly enrich our fundamental knowledge of geophysics and geochemistry may also have important energy and environmental applications." -Wendy
