We selected this area because it nicely displays the San Andreas fault in southern California - an area that isn't as forested as the Bay area. Here the San Andreas (near Buttonwillow and the Carrizo Plain) is linear and associated with some spectacular folds (anticlines) on the Great Valley side of the fault. This is a great place to study strike-slip related deformation. |
