How can you find out what's going on at the School of Earth Sciences?
In addition to the events posted on the school
calendar, there are several ongoing seminar series which are open
to everyone:
GSAC sponsored events can be found here
Biogeochemistry Seminar Series
The format of the seminar will be to follow monthly lectures by leading
biogeochemists with 2-3 weekly, small-group discussions of papers addressing
intriguing issues raised by speakers. While lectures will be open to a
broad audience, the discussion group will be limited to a smaller number
of interested graduate students and faculty. Please contact Nancy
Grumet if you are interested in participating in the discussion portion
of the seminar.
Further information regarding the content and scheduling of the seminar
is posted on the biogeochemistry
seminar schedule.
Hydrogeology Seminar Series
The Hydrogeology Seminar series will be offered Autumn and Spring Quarters.
The series may be taken as a 1 unit credited course (GES 332) but is also
open to all who are interested. Seminars will be held weekly; the listing
of speakers and topics can be found on the hydrogeology
seminar schedule.
Quantitative Structural Geology Seminar Series
The discussion-based seminars emphasize brittle deformation, faulting,
and fracturing. Two papers will be reviewed by seminar participants each
week. Contact Dave Pollard
for more information.
Sedimentary Geology Group Seminar
The Sedimentary Geology Seminar series meets on Fridays at 12 PM in Geocorner,
Building 320, room 109. The seminars are informal discussions based on
ongoing student research in sedimentary geology. Check out the seminar
schedule for more info.
Petroleum Engineering Seminars
The Petroleum Engineering Seminar Series take place in the Green Earth
Science building, room 104 on Tuesdays at 4:15pm unless otherwise noted.
Check out the seminar
schedule for more info.
Chain-Gang Petrology Group Seminar
The Chain-Gang Petrology Group Seminar series meets on Fridays at 12 PM
in Green Earth Sci. Building, room 222. The seminars are informal discussions
based on ongoing research in Petrology, Structural Geology, and other
topics. All are welcome. Email Uwe
Martens for seminar details and schedule.
Brown Bag SES Seminars
The Brown Bag Seminar Series takes place weekly, at 12, in Geocorner,
Building 320, room 106. This seminar is an excellent opportunity to learn
about what research activities are taking place in the School of Earth
Science. Two Graduate and Undergraduate students give 30 min talks each
week about their research. Many times these are practice talks for AGU,
GSA, or Quals presentations. Food is always provided!
