Field Trips

The field trip consists of examination of non-marine basin fill in two contrasting basin settings in two different geographic parts of China. The field trip will occur in two stages in order to meet the schedules of participants.
Field Trip-1: May 13-15, Beijing—Luanping (3 days)
May 13-14: Beijing-Luanping by bus (160 km, about 3 hours drive).
Cretaceous fan-delta depositional systems and sequence stratigraphy in Luanping rift basin.
May 15:
Morning: sightseeing tour to the Chengde Summer Palace, one of the most famous imperial palaces in Qing Dynasty of China.
Afternoon: Chengde—Beijing by bus

Field Trip-2: May 13-19, Beijing—Luanping—Yan’an (7days)
May 13-15: the same arrangement as Field Trip 1.
May 16:
Morning: Beijing—Yan’an by airplane (900 km, about 1.5 hours flying).
Afternoon: A short seminar introducing Ordos Basin geology with subsurface data and seismic lines
May 17-18:
Upper Triassic fluvial-deltaic depositional systems and sequence stratigraphy of a large-scale cratonic/foreland basin, Ordos Basin, Yan’an.
May 19:
Morning: Yan’an—Beijing for non-Xi’an Tour registered delegates
A short sightseeing tour in Yan’an for Xi’an Tour delegates
Afternoon: Yan’an—Xi’an by airplane.

Social Activities
Evening May 11: Chinese Traditional Show (all delegates and accompanying persons are invited)
May 20-22: Tour in Xi’an, the traditional Capital City of China on separate paid basis. (program details refer to Appendix 2).
