The Opteron cluster is designed for distributed programming and is part of the CEES High Productivity Technical Computing facility.
Facilities
School offices, classrooms and laboratories are located in three buildings:
- Geology Corner/Braun Hall (Building 320 of the Quad)
- Ruth Wattis Mitchell Earth Sciences Building
- Cecil H. and Ida M. Green Earth Sciences Research Building
- Yang and Yamazaki Environment and Energy Building

- Hartley Conference Center
- The 1100 sq. ft. Fred L. Hartley Conference Center, in the Mitchell building, is available for use by all Stanford University departments.

- Laboratories & Computing Facilities
- The School has a wide range of state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and computing facilities for use in research and teaching. Stanford researchers also have access to a wealth of facilities elsewhere on campus, and through ongoing collaborations with the U.S. Geological Survey, whose western regional headquarters are located about two miles from the campus.

- Library
- Branner Earth Sciences Library, located on the second floor of the Mitchell Building, houses an extensive collection of books and maps. The library's collection includes about 125,000 volumes (including 2000 serial titles) and around 260,000 maps. The library is a depository for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the California Division of Mines and Geology.
