3/26/09 - Illustrator bug fixed - works OK now on Mac OS X
-
There used to be a problem trying to save
Illustrator
files to the
"Desktop"
or anywhere inside your
"Documents"
folder while using the Mac OS X operating system in the lab.
This was due to an interaction between
Illustrator
and a bug in the School's file server, sesfs, which
hosts those two folders.
The server bug was fixed, and other configuration changes made,
during an upgrade on March 26, 2009.
Illustrator
can now be used on the G.R.I.D. lab computers under Mac OS X
without problems. There were never any problems under Windows XP.

3/23/09 - Disable kerberos keys if trouble connecting with SecureCRT or SecureFX
-
Sometimes, an ssh connection attempt with the
SecureCRT
program or an sftp connection attempt with the
SecureFX
program running on Windows will fail with a Kerberos error.
You must change your program configuration to work around this
error. This problem also occurs in the A-65 computer lab.
Please see the instructions in the
Software Tips for the A-65 Computer Classroom
web page.

12/19/08 - Matlab removed from Saxton
-
Our new Matlab license will no longer support the older version of
Matlab that is needed for Saxton, which uses the older G5 processor.
Therefore, Matlab has been removed from Saxton. Use any of the other
lab computers if you need to run Matlab.

12/12/08 - Ptolemy plotter not working
-
The printheads are not functioning properly on Ptolemy. This plotter
is very old, and probably not worth fixing. Plans are underway to
replace it in January. Meanwhile, use the escher plotter only.
If you need 36 inch wide paper, simply trim down the 42 inch paper
from escher.
-
12/10/08 - ArcMap extensions must be activated by each user
-
The
ArcMap
program contains many "Analyst" extensions that are not active
by default. This is because they require a separate license.
Stanford has a site-license for all features, so you can use these
extensions as well. However, you must activate them from the
Extensions
item of the
Tools
menu.
Activation status is stored on a per-user and per-computer basis.
Each person using a computer
in the lab must activate these extensions on each computer he/she uses.
ArcMap is also installed on the computers in the
Mitchell A-65 computer cluster;
see the
A-65 Software Tips page
for more information.

12/1/08 - Login problems
-
Sometimes a particular SUNet ID will not be accepted for login
to the lab computers. See the
lab FAQ page
for details and workarounds.
