Network Protocols Supported by Printer
Type of Computer AppleTalk Windows Print Sharing via TCP/IP Unix lpd via TCP/IP
Macintosh Preferred access method for Macintosh.
Set AppleTalk name and zone with vendor's utility program.
No direct access.
May be possible to print via pangea if neither AppleTalk nor lpd is available on this printer. Or, buy the Dave program to install on your Macintosh.
Secondary access method for Macintosh.
Register your printer for an IP address and request an AppleTalk printer spool on pangea, which then sends the print job to the printer via lpd.
Windows 95 or 98
Secondary access method for Windows 95/98 PC.
Set AppleTalk name and zone with vendor's utility program. Request a Windows printer spool on pangea, which then sends the print job to the printer via AppleTalk. Or, buy the PC-MacLAN program to install on your Windows 95/98 PC.
Preferred access method for Windows PC.
Register your printer for an IP address and then configure printer with a Windows network name.
Secondary access method for Windows PC.
Register your printer for an IP address and request a Windows printer spool on pangea, which then sends the print job to the printer via lpd.
Windows NT or 2000
Preferred access method for Windows NT/2000 PC.
Set AppleTalk name and zone with vendor's utility program. Windows NT or 2000 can print directly to Appletalk printers.
Preferred access method for Windows PC.
Register your printer for an IP address and then configure printer with a Windows network name [where does this link to?].
Secondary access method for Windows PC.
Register your printer for an IP address and request a Windows printer spool on pangea, which then sends the print job to the printer via lpd.
Pangea or department or research group Unix workstations. Preferred access method for Unix systems.
Set AppleTalk name and zone with vendor's utility program. Request a pangea printer queue. Configure as a "remote printer" on your Unix system that spools through pangea.

May be possible to print via pangea if neither AppleTalk nor lpd is available on this printer.
Preferred access method for Unix systems.
Register your printer for an IP address. Configure as a "remote printer" on your Unix system that spools directly to printer. For pangea program access, request a pangea printer queue.
