How do I attach another computer to the network if there are no more active jacks?

Last revision July 12, 2004

The orange RJ45 modular jacks on the Telecommunications Service Outlets (TSOs) are for network use. Jacks that are active for ethernet service will have a small "10/100" label immediately above them, to signify that they support either 10BaseT (standard ethernet) or 100BaseT (fast ethernet) connections. If none of the unused jacks in your office is active, you will need to contact the local network manager. He will be able to activate one of the remaining jacks for you.

However, if all the jacks on the TSOs are in use, you will need to purchase a hub. For advice or questions about purchasing a hub, also contact the network manager.
