Jeremy Carl

Jeremy Carl grew up in North Carolina, but came to Stanford by way of India where he served as a visiting fellow in Resource and Development Economics at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in New Delhi.   At Stanford, Jeremy is studying the environmental, geopolitical and economic aspects of energy development and policy, with a particular focus on China and India.

Jeremy is a graduate of Yale University, where he majored in history (focusing on Chinese history) and served as President of the Yale Political Union, Yale’s largest student organization.   He subsequently obtained a masters degree at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, concentrating in international development and environmental policy. While at Harvard, he also worked on projects for several organizations including the World Bank and the United Nations, (where he worked on the Millennium Development Goals report.)

Jeremy began his career as a journalist, and also spent several years working in various roles in technology management and corporate finance for RealNetworks, An S&P 500 company.

He has served as a board member of ONE/Northwest, a non-profit offering technology assistance to environmental groups, and WildAid, an international wildlife preservation organization. He also worked as a staff member at Environmental Defense, where he was in charge of communications for the California office and was an integral member of the team that helped successfully lobby to pass California’s landmark auto emissions law.

In his spare time, he enjoys hiking and the outdoors, reading, and following the exploits of the University of North Carolina Tarheels basketball team.
