IPER Mentoring Lunch Program
Ph.D. Program
April 13, 2006 (updated 08/23/07)

In response to strong student interest, we are instituting an informal mentoring program to encourage both student-student and faculty-student interaction in IPER. The program has two components:

1.  Student-student Mentoring

A student mentor can take a mentee out to lunch/coffee and vice versa at IPER's expense. The goal is to encourage more senior students to talk with more junior students about professional matters. We find that many common questions raised by newer students are actually best answered by an experienced student.

Student pairs (mentor/mentee) must notify Danielle in advance (at least one day) of their intention to participate. One participant must be a more junior student. A maximum of 20 participants can sign up per month, so sign up early! Group sessions are fine, but the participant ratio should be 1-4 junior students to every advanced student. Each participant will be reimbursed for up to $10 to cover lunch/coffee (receipt required).

2.  Faculty-student Mentoring

A group of students can invite a faculty member to lunch/coffee.  A minimum of three students and one faculty member are expected to participate.  Student groups must notify Danielle in advance (at least one day) of their intention to host a lunch/coffee, and will be reimbursed for up to $10 for each participant (receipt required).

Happy mentoring!
