ResourcesGraduate school presents its own challenges, so minimize the difficulty by using the following resources and information: AcademicThe Stanford Bulletin, which you can pick up at 630 Serra Street, Suite 120 (NEW Location), is also accessible on the web and contains all the academic information about the University and its schools, departments, and programs, including all courses. Included are this year's course offerings.Check out the Stanford Academic Calendar 2008-09 for important deadlines, including the last possible day to submit your study list, change your grading option, and withdraw from classes. SocialThe Graduate Student Programming Board organizes all campus-wide events, social and otherwise, that involve graduate students. A great resource for international students and anyone interested in some cool cultural events is the Bechtel International Center, which provides many necessary services (visas, English classes, organized trips) as well as holding some of the best festivals and dinner events on campus. For on-campus residents (and for anyone who wants to crash on-campus parties), you can find out about residence events going on at the Rains Apartments, the Escondido Village Apartments, and the Lyman Residences. The great web-ified version of the San Francisco Chronicle, known as The Gate, will keep you keyed into the happenings around the Bay Area, including theater, movies, dining, sports, and regional news. Useful LinksIn an attempt to save you time mining through the websites, here are a few helpful links:
OtherThe "Computing Resources" page on this site contains a New User checklist which will provide you all the info you need to set up e-mail, unix accounts, etc. for Earth Sciences. In addition, the campus-wide Computing & Communication page will give you more info about phones, voice mail, email, networking, and anything else you need to get connected to the technological lifeline of the university. The Center for Teaching and Learning often holds lectures and seminars to help you be a better teacher; for anyone who will be a TA, this is a worthwhile site to visit.
