FAULT MECHANICS

Can measurements of crustal deformation forewarn the occurrence of an earthquake? How does fault rupture nucleate? Once fault rupture initiates what determines the size of the earthquake? These and other questions are being studied in the research groups: Crustal Deformation and Fault Mechanics, Stress and Crustal Mechanics, Earthquake Seismology and Radar Interferometry.
