EARTHQUAKES AND ARCHAEOLOGY

 

Why so many ruins? What role did earthquakes play in the demise of ancient cultures of Greece, Mesoamerica and the Middle East? Archaeologists frequently attribute debris uncovered in excavations to invading armies. Historians criticize archaeologists for invoking wars and battles that are not described in historical documents. Often the truth may lie with earthquakes.
