BIOLOGICAL OCEANOGRAPHY

SeaWiFS satellite image of the San Francisco Bay / Monterey Bay area showing the concentration of algae in the water.

Research in biological oceanography utilizes many geophysical tools to decipher how marine microalgae influence biogeochemical cycling and control the biogenic flux of carbon dioxide into the oceans.

The research interplays satellite remote sensing, ecophysiological modeling and experimental and field studies. Research in these areas is being carried out by Kevin Arrigo.
