Students enrolled in GES 55Q take a field trip to the Mother Lode region of the Sierra Nevada, where the gold rush began. After learning where the gold came from, how it was extracted, and the environmental conseqences of mining, students get a chance to try their hand as prospectors.

GES 55Q: The California Gold Rush is a Sophomore Seminar, offered every Winter quarter.
