Matthew Coble: Graduate Student
Matthew Coble is working on his PhD. in volcanology and geochronology with Profs. Gail Mahood and Marty Grove. Currently in his fifth year of graduate work, Matt's doctoral research focuses on the timing, geology, and geochemistry of mid-Miocene silicic calderas in northwest Nevada. These volcanic rocks have been interpreted to be the products of initial impingement of the Yellowstone hotspot. Currently, Matt is focused on constraining the ages of these rapidly erupted volcanic rocks using 40Ar/39Ar geochronology and developing new capacity for multi-collector noble gas mass-spectrometry.
