Undergraduate Program

Philosophy:

The Earth Systems major at Stanford University is a broad based interdisciplinary environmental science program for undergraduates. The course of study focuses on environmental processes and issues on regional to global scales. After completing a cognate core designed to introduce students to different components of the environment's functions, students focus their studies through one of five tracks: Anthrosphere, Biosphere, Energy Science & Technology, Oceans, or Land Management.

Foundation, Breadth, and Core Courses:

• Esys 10 - Introduction to Earth Systems
• Esys 111 - Biogeosphere
• Esys 112 - Human Society and Global Change
• Esys 210 - Senior Seminar
• Esys 260 - Internship (WIM)

All students must complete courses in the following areas:

o Biology

o Chemistry

o Geological and Environmental Sciences

o Mathematics

o Statistics

o Physics

o Economics
