Julie Kennedy Senior Lecturer and
Associate Director, Academics
Julie received a B.S. in Geology from the University of California, Davis in
1986 and her Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1992. Her interests include: interdisciplinary teaching and learning and effective communication of interdisciplinary concepts, problems and solutions for non-expert audiences.
Julie is the Associate Director of Academics and a Senior Lecturer in Earth Systems. She is also a Senior Lecturer in the Woods Institute for the Environment and in the Environmental Earth System Science Department. Julie is the Landreth Family University Fellow in Undergraduate Education.
Julie lectures in Earth Systems 10 and teaches the Senior Seminar, the Masters Seminar, and Advanced Topics. She also directs the writing-intensive internship. As the Academic Associate Director, she advises students and oversees
various directed research efforts for both undergraduates and master's students. In 2002, she was given a Dinkelspiel
Award in recognition of her role in the success of the Earth Systems Program. Julie is also a two-time winner of the School of Earth Sciences Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Deana received her B.A. in Social Sciences and Special Education from San Jose
State University. She received her life-time teaching credential and M.A.
in Education from the College of Notre Dame. From the life of a school teacher
and counselor, she came to Stanford in 1980.
As the Associate Director of Administration for Earth Systems, Deana is responsible for program administration
and student services. This includes maintaining student records, creative
problem solving, finances, ensuring degree requirements are met for graduation,
academic advising, and disseminating Program information. In 2008, Deana received the prestigious Amy J. Blue Award, which honors University staff members who are exceptionally dedicated, supportive of colleagues, and passionate about their work.
Emily received her B.A. in Slavic Studies from Stanford University in 2003. She joined the Earth Systems Program in 2006. As the Student Services Officer, Emily is responsible for finding and disseminating information on jobs and internships for students and alumni. She advises undergraduates in curriculum planning and course selection. In addition, Emily serves as a resource to faculty in course scheduling and management.
